The Essentials

Cleaning agent for everything:

This is a top favorite here; we use it for laundry, as an additive to shampoo and/ or final dip after baths, skin tonic, to sanitize surfaces (and pets/ people!), and to get to the moon.  Well - almost.  Non-toxic, residually cleaning disinfectant with lovely smell.   Check out their other products including shampoo and medicated lotions; and Health Guard’s website for more information.  Dari is a great woman who owns the company, and will spare the time for a friendly chat as well as Q&A!

"Program" once-a-month oral flea protection:

There is a theory that Program's active ingredient, lufeneron, helps fight fungus on a systemic level therefore it can’t hurt during a kittens' first year when they are most susceptible to Ringworm, a harmless though obnoxious skin issue.  After that, we rave about Advantage or Frontline as uncomplicated ways to safeguard against fleas and related tapeworm complications.  Even indoor cats can be vulnerable to infestation by sticky flea eggs which are easily transmitted if you unwittingly pass though an infected area on your daily travels.

Anti-static comb; teflon-coated and easy to grip:

We've tried a lot of combs(!) and #14831-13 & 728 are the best we've found, they seem to float through the coat.  One has a comfortable grip; the other has two thicknesses.  Pull vertically through any mats, and then horizontally to brush.

Nail trimmers, non-splintering:

The grips don’t cramp your hand and they allow for a longer reach.  Stay sharp longer, too.

"Premier" shampoo, a tearless formulation:

Leaves fur soft & fluffy, conditioned without weighing down/ making sticky, and rinses easily.

Small trimming scissors:

Suggestion for tidying feet and nether areas.  Model 14757 is a safety-first favorite and though pricey, very beautiful!  Hair dresser’s scissors work equally well - anything that will consistently clip fine hair without snagging and tugging.

Products

Terramycin ointment:

Please consider this a staple in your arsenal for the battle against both tear stains and infections.  This is an all-purpose ointment that is simply fantastic.  Please note: it’s best to not put the tip to your kitty’s eye; squirt on your (clean) finger and administer.  Use as needed - it is an antibiotic.

“Urine Off” enzymatic cleaner:

We’ve tried all products, and this one is the best we’ve seen.  To keep kitty from re-soiling you need to really remove all odour, and this does the job.
