Grooming/ Boarding

Grooming

  1. Grooming is very important to the health as well as appearance of your kitty.  As a kitten, you’ll want to comb or brush him or her every day, mostly to keep it used to the feel of the comb so it will enjoy grooming when that big, fluffy coat comes in.  We recommend a ‘slicker’ brush for kitten coats, and a wide tooth/ fine tooth metal comb combo for adult coats.  This is easy enough and pleasant to do for both you and your kitty; it can provide quite a bonding opportunity as you relax in front of the t.v. at the end of a long day.

  2. You’ll want to keep the eye and face area clean to prevent infection (be careful when wiping with a tissue; aim away from the eye to prevent from pushing bacteria back in; dampening can help loosen touch bits).  Clip nails every two weeks.  When grooming, remember to flip your kitten onto its back and comb its tummy and underarms; the friction areas where matts can start.  You may want to keep these areas trimmed short to avoid problems later.  You may also want to keep the fur trimmed around the bottom area, as well as the bottoms of the feet for neatness and hygiene (it’s easier for kitty to maintain).

  3. We urge you to do your own grooming and not rely solely on public groomers.  Your kitten is used to being bathed and if you continue to do so, it is quite easy.

  4. Here’s what you do... trim nails first, comb thoroughly, run some warm water in a sink or tub, use any good pet shampoo.  Lather, rinse well, towel dry, and put kitty in the carrier.  Use a blow dryer on a low, warm heat directed into the carrier and finish with a quick comb...  the whole process takes about 15-20 minutes.  Kittens can be bathed every two weeks, if necessary.  Adult cats should be bathed anywhere from once a month to once a season.

  5. We will be posting a video soon on the whole process, so check back from time to time for ongoing eduction and demonstrations!

Boarding

  1. A long-term boarding session at our facility will always start with a grooming (including full bath and complimentary fungal dip/ worming) to help insure the health of our present felines.  We reserve the right to refuse any animal, and request most recent vet records.  Sorry, but although we love them, we do not house animals with FeLV or other contagious afflictions for the protection of our breeding programme.

  2. Separated accommodations are generally provided, unless circumstances (i.e. housing one of our kittens pre-adoption) permit access to the general population, who have the run of the house.  We will never house in the garage or an outside shed, as unsavoury breeders are known to do.  We have a full disclosure policy which means you are invited to view all areas of our home to inspect!  Not always is the laundry done and folded, so some common sense and compassion is requested, but always the kitties are treated humanely and lovingly, and health and companionship is first priority.

  3. Toys, catnip, and comfort is provided (you are welcome to bring anything you want, bearing in mind it will be sanitized), and we follow any feeding programme you prefer: from kibble to canned to raw (preferred).  Aside from the practical housing and care of your baby, we will be sure to give them the full health spa experience!

  1. We are pleased to offer grooming and boarding services to accommodate demand, and thank you for your trust and confidence with your babies!  A clean and confident animal is not only a more pleasant way for our felines to live, but also for our households,
and it promotes mental vigor and stability also.
  2. In addition to regular brushing at home, we advocate baths every two to three months (more often if desired or needed).  This  keeps hygiene prioritized as well as a level of comfort and acceptance by your kitty.  We strive for our own grooming to be non-invasive and streamlined experiences which result in beautiful coat, teeth, and eyes and allows your kitty to be most comfortable in his or her own skin.  A well-attended cat is a beautiful thing to see - both for health and welfare!
